How To Use Vision Boards to Attract Clients + Grow Your Biz

Clients

During a coaching call with a client, we were talking about how things we put on our vision boards last year were coming into fruition. Mine was truly just a list, numbered 1-10, that I scratched on an index card at a retreat last year with my coach, Laura. (Sometimes, vision boards can be that simple!)

One of the things I wrote down was real diamond stud earrings. I’ve been wearing the same CZ’s from Claire’s at the mall for a while. It was time for an upgrade.

Fast forward a month or so. Matt and I were exchanging early Christmas gifts and he handed me a small box. Unsure of what to expect, I shakily opened the wrapping paper and was greeted with a pair of beautiful, sparkly, real diamond stud earrings.

Here’s where it gets good: He had no idea I had wanted them. I didn’t show him the list I made with Laura, he didn’t snoop around, and I didn’t breathe a word about earrings to him.

That’s the power of vision boards! More specifically, that’s the power of using vision board as a tool and a tangible reminder of the things you aspire to do, be, and have in your life and in your business.

Why Vision Boards Work

If you’re anything like me, getting started with creating new visions and goals can be a challenge. There are so many things I could do, I tend to get a little deer-in-the-headlights if I haven’t reminded myself of what I want to aim for.

After all, if you don’t know what you’re aiming at, how will you ever succeed in getting there?

That’s where my vision board comes in. It’s a simple, physical item that keeps my attention focused on the horizon and helps me to block out other distractions so I hit my mark every time.

The times when I haven’t used a tool to help me stay on track? I’ve felt directionless, like a ship without anything to propel it forward. No one wants to feel that way, especially when dreaming of everything you desire and planning and scheming to get it all!

Success Tip: Use your vision board to hone in on the things that speak to you and inspire you to get to work.

The three types of vision boards…

While there’s no wrong way to make a vision board, there are a few different types you could use to start mining your mind for what you desire.

Bucket List-based

If you’re new to this process or just don’t know where to start, create a list. Write out ideas for what you might want to be, do, have, and experience in the coming year.

This is not an exhaustive list. And it doesn’t need to be a list where you know how you’ll make these happen or things seem possible. The point of this list is to open you up to your truest desires.

Life Areas-based

If you thrive with structure need a little more of a format to start unleashing yourself, consider creating a board organized by life areas. There are six general life areas that you can read more about here!

Feelings-based

The next way can be very meaningful if you’re tuned in with how you want to feel. If you’re familiar with your Core Desired Feelings, this may be a helpful way to organize your vision board.

You can also add a feeling layer to either the bucket-list based or life-area based vision boards. Or you can begin with feelings and build from there.

Before you start, consider your heart.

No matter which type of vision board I’m creating, I like to journal first so I can clarify my wishes in a written practice before diving into Pinterest or that stack of glossies in the corner of my desk. The things I truly desire have a way of coming out when I have a pen in my hand and I’m freely writing in the safe space of my journal.

And when you use your vision board to bring your attention to those deepest desires, you’re much more likely to call them into your life. They’ll be powerful enough to capture your attention and drive you to find ways to bring them to fruition.

How I Grow My Business and Enrich My Life With My Vision Board

I use vision boards as a focal point for both the times I get distracted and the times I need a reminder of exactly why I’m doing what I’m doing.

Need to remember why you’re writing all these outreach emails when you just want to be planning a Disney vacation? Vision board.

Need a boost to urge you to clean your house to prepare for a puppy? Vision board.

Need permission to take a break and plan that Disney vacation after all? Vision board.

Need a reminder to put your credit card away when you see orchids on sale and instead put that money in your “I want this thing” savings account? I think you get the idea.

How I used my vision board to get those earrings.

Vision boards give me the space to tell the universe and myself what I want in no uncertain terms. In the example of receiving my real diamond stud earrings, I focused my efforts to bring them to me and a vision board was where it started. Here’s how I called in my earrings:

I claimed what I wanted (by writing it down).

I got into motion and in the energy of receiving by focusing on what was on the list.

I reminded myself: This is why I’m working. These things are compelling and true to me and for them, I will block out other distractions and do the work it takes to make them real.

By the effort of my focused intentions, I put the vibe into the world that I was calling in the items and experiences on my list.

And I got to work. I did what I could to show the universe I was serious. That meant I opened my schedule to more sales calls, actively looked for ways to make new connections, and was intentional about my energy.

Part of getting to work meant that Matt and I looked at our expenses and came up with creative solutions to working with our money to find more of it in our bank account.

In other words, if I hadn’t claimed what I truly wanted, I may not have had an irresistible enough reason to put my blinders on and figure out how to make it happen.

The vibe was working for me, the Universe was working for me, and I was working for me! And it happened so quickly. When you get into the right space, you’ll be shocked at how quickly and easily what you truly desire comes to you.

There’s no right or wrong way to make a vision board. They work because you’re getting specific about what you want. Then, they help you commit to doing your part to call in what you want to have.
